# Corruption-accused ANC’s Zizi Kodwa has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament, alongside the 58 MK Party members who missed the first sitting. Former Western Cape Judge president John Hlophe and former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla were sworn in. Hlophe, impeached earlier this year for gross misconduct, will now sit alongside those who voted against him. Acting Western Cape Judge president Patricia Goliath presided over the swearing-in ceremony:
Meanwhile, Parliament has advised that the date for the Opening of Parliament Address will be announced soon. President Cyril Ramaphosa, in consultation with Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza and National Council of Provinces chairperson, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, will set the date. The opening address, held once every five years after elections, marks the official opening of the seventh Parliament and will be conducted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre due to ongoing construction at Parliament.
# The City of Cape Town is encouraging residents to sign up and get active in the recreation community exhibition programme. This programme is designed to promote sport and recreation within communities. Mayoral committee member for Community Service and Health, Patricia van der Ross says over the weekend, the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks hosted a recreation community exhibition at the Factreton Community Centre and approximately 50 participants, ranging in age from 13 to over 60, attended the event:
# WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s wife says he will be a free man after a US judge signs off on his landmark plea deal expected to take place in the US tomorrow. Stella Assange said he boarded a plane from London to Bangkok yesterday. Assange was freed on bail from a high-security prison in southeast London after being held there while fighting extradition to the United States. He has agreed to plead guilty to a single count of conspiracy to obtain and disseminate national defence information.
# Soccer: When is a player too old for professional soccer? The 57-year-old former international Kazuyoshi Miura says his passion for playing burns brighter than ever after returning to Japanese club soccer. The striker known as “King Kazu” has signed for Atletico Suzuka Club in Japan’s fourth tier, on loan from Yokohama FC in the second division. He returns to Japan after two seasons with a Portuguese second-division outfit. Miura made his debut in 1986 with Brazilian side Santos and has also played in Italy, Croatia and Australia.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-14-cents and the euro at 19-rand-45-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-3-cents and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-357-dollars-82-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-333-dollars-35-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-65-cents a barrel.
