# The EFF urge Electoral Commission commissioner Nomsa Masuku to step down following her arrest for allegedly committing 1.2-million-rand in fraud while leading the “Adopt A School” programme at Standard Bank. EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys says if Masuku is truly committed to democratic principles, she would resign to address the allegations without further tarnishing the IEC’s reputation, ensuring public trust in the integrity of the electoral process:
# The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has urged landlords not to evict students due to delayed payments. Administrator Freeman Nomvalo, after meeting with King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College officials and student leaders in the Eastern Cape, committed to resolving allowance and accommodation payment issues. The scheme’s spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi urges landlords not to evict students over outstanding payments and to submit their claims:
In another development, the scheme has announced provincial roadshows starting next month. This is to streamline next year’s accommodation application process. These roadshows aim to understand institutional dynamics and share the scheme’s guidelines, ensuring a smoother application process. Mnisi, says accommodation challenges and student allowance payments, including outstanding claims, will be addressed:
# At least 25 Palestinians have been killed, and 50 wounded, after an attack by Israeli tanks on tents sheltering displaced families in Rafah. The latest attack in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, took place in Mawasi in western Rafah. Witnesses told Associated Press Israeli forces fired a second volley that killed people when they came out of their tents. The Israeli military says there is no indication that a strike was carried out by the IDF inside the safe zone.
# And cricket: Shai Hope hit a stylish unbeaten 82 as West Indies reignited their hopes of reaching the T20 World Cup semi-finals with a nine-wicket thrashing of co-hosts USA. Defeat by England in their opening Super 8s game put the Windies under pressure, but they responded with a dominant victory in Barbados. After bowling the United States out for 128, Rovman Powell’s side knocked off the runs in only ten overs and five balls. The Windies have now surpassed England in the competition. They play the Proteas on Monday.
