# The South African Human Rights Commission is taking DA Member of Parliament Renaldo Gouws to the Equality Court in Gqeberha for alleged hate speech and racist utterances from a 2010 YouTube video. In the video, Gouws allegedly called for the killing of black people using extremely offensive language. According to the commission’s Wisani Baloyi, following complaints and assessment, the commission found the statements to constitute hate speech under the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act:
# The ANC Youth League has praised the party for its strategic approach to forming a government of national unity. Briefing the media, the league’s president Collen Malatji, commended the leadership’s commitment to unity, stability, and progress. Malatji welcomed the inclusion of about 20 young parliamentarians and significant representation under the age of 40:
# The City of Tshwane is urgently appealing to businesses and residents to donate food and essential items to support homeless shelters facing critical shortages. Due to delays in provincial grants, several non-profit organisations are struggling to maintain operations, with some at risk of closing within weeks. Items such as bottled water, canned goods, maize meal, and toiletries can be delivered to the Tshwane Food Bank at 450 President Burgers Street, in Pretoria. Deputy mayor Nasiphi Moya says the community’s support is vital to assist the homeless population during this time.
# The UN’s human rights office says Israel’s military may have repeatedly broken the laws of war and failed to distinguish between civilians and fighters. The claim is based on the assessment of six Israeli attacks that caused a high number of casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza between 7 October and 2 December. Israel’s permanent mission to the UN in Geneva described the analysis as “factually, legally and methodologically flawed”. Authorities in Gaza claim Israel’s offensive following Hamas’s deadly 7 October assault has killed more than 37-thousand Palestinians.
# Golf: Charlie Woods, the son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, has qualified for the US Junior Amateur championship. He posted a 1-under 71, finishing first at a qualifying event at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. Charlie was one of four golfers to secure a spot in the US Junior Amateur. He follows in his dad’s footsteps. Tiger won the same tournament in 1991, 1992 and 1993. The only three-time champion of the event, Tiger won it at 15 years old, Charlie’s current age.
