# The DA’s Western Cape’s premier candidate, Alan Winde, says only they have the track record and the vision to govern the province effectively. At the party’s rally in Belhar, Cape Town, Winde said the DA will create 800-thousand new jobs, fight crime with one-thousand-300 law enforcement officers, push for control of policing, transport and the ports, and build schools for quality education for all:
In Johannesburg, RISE Mzansi is hosting a church service at Redeemed Gospel Church in Ennerdale to pray for the party, as well as the upcoming elections. Spokesperson Gugu Ndima says churches are anchors in many communities, and continue to deal with the devastating impact of political neglect and corruption on South Africans. The party respects all faiths and recognises the importance of honouring religious practices:
# The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers says there can never be a true socially transformative National Health Insurance with budget cuts introduced by the government. NUPSAW’s Mzikazi Nkata says community health workers are still being precariously and casually employed. They are occupying the Eastern Cape Department of Health offices today and tomorrow to demand permanent employment for all public health service workers:
# Tshwane Metro Police have impounded 19 taxis operating illegally in Laudium. Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says an operation against drunk driving was conducted at Sefako Makgatho Drive over the weekend. It led to the arrest of ten motorists who were driving under the influence. In the same operation, two Mercedes Benz vehicles were impounded for further investigation. In one of them, a pellet gun was found and in the other one, the licence discs and number plates were in the boot.
# And, cricket: The West Indies beat South Africa by 16 runs in Kingston, Jamaica, last night to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Twenty20 series. Chasing 208 for victory, the Proteas could only muster 191 for seven off their 20 overs. The South Africans got off to a good start until Quinton de Kock was dismissed for 41 and Reeza Hendricks for 34. Wickets then fell at regular intervals. The final T20 will be played tonight.
