He signed the National Prosecuting Authority Amendment Bill and the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Bill yesterday:
# The ANC Limpopo is concerned that police are only targeting its members despite criminal cases being opened against EFF members. ANC member Jossey Buthane was arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm. This relates to the violence between ANC and EFF supporters in Seshego lst weekend. Buthane handed himself over to police yesterday and briefly appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court where he was released on a five-thousand-rand bail. The ANC’s spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says the case against Buthane is politically motivated.
# The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has found a 49-year-old senior Municipal Infrastructure Support Agency official guilty of corruption related to the Digital Vibes contract. Lizeka Tonjeni was a project manager in 2018 when a tender of almost four-million-rand was awarded to Digital Vibes for communication services. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana, says Tonjeni received payments of 160-thousand-rand that were not authorised and due to her from Digital Vibes:
# Tennis: Novak Djokovic admits he is worried about his chances at the French Open after a disappointing semi-final exit to Czech player Tomas Machac yesterday at the Geneva Open. The score was 6-4, 0-6, 6-1. Djokovic says he is not the favourite at Roland Garros and has a lot to work on. He leaves Switzerland with question marks hanging over his form and fitness after battling an upset stomach over the past few days.
# And, the EFF says it stands in solidarity with all Africans as they celebrate their shared heritage, unity and resilience. Africa Day is not only a remembrance of the continent’s rich history, but also a reaffirmation of the commitment to the continued struggle for freedom, equality and justice. The EFF says Africa has made significant strides in fostering unity and pursuing common goals. The party celebrates the African Development Bank’s transformative Desert to Power Initiative, launched across the Sahel region, to provide electricity to 250-million people by 2030.
