# The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa has suspended its planned national shutdown scheduled for today. The shutdown, over the employment of foreign truck drivers amongst other issues, was expected to disrupt major transport routes. The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa Secretary General, Gugu Sokhela, says the leadership had a constructive meeting with the relevant stakeholders yesterday. He says they hope government departments will uphold their commitment to intensify inspections and enforcement of compliance regulations.
# ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe has advocated for the eradication of corruption in the tender system. Addressing supporters on the final leg of its campaign in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, Meshoe said the system benefits few and leads infrastructure decay. Meshoe vowed to decentralise service provision and empower municipalities. He also calls for the repatriation of illegal immigrants, and urges border control tightening:
# The search for the eleven fishermen who went missing when their vessel sank in Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard on Friday afternoon has been called off. There were 20 crew members on board when the tragedy unfolded, nine were rescued. Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, says a review of the search efforts, and the unfavourable weather, led the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to conclude the search and rescue effort. Creecy has welcomed the appointment of an investigation team by the South African Maritime Safety Authority.
# Soccer: Manchester City have now surpassed Manchester United to become the only side to win the Premier League four times in a row. Needing a victory to be sure of holding off Arsenal, two goals from Phil Foden and one from Rodri were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to beat West Ham three-one, and win the title by two points. City have now won six out of the past seven Premier League titles. Guardiola says what they have accomplished as a team is special:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-16-cents and the euro at 19-rand-75-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-7-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-600-dollars-99-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-433-dollars-69-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-4-cents a barrel.
