# ActionSA says it’s clear from its shitty tour of broken sewage infrastructure across South Africa that the country faces nothing less than a national health crisis. The fact that over 46-percent of the groundwater is now contaminated by sewage demonstrates the quantum of the problem and the scale at which municipalities are failing to manage sewage infrastructure. ActionSA’s Michael Beaumont says failures of provincial governments to address broken municipalities is another key reason for the sewage crisis:
# The African Development Bank is today hosting a virtual information and training workshop, for civil society organisations engaged in protecting the environment, and combating the effects of climate change. The webinar aims to equip organisations with the knowledge and skills to tap funding from the Africa Climate Change Fund, ahead of its forthcoming fourth call for proposals. The fund complements the African Development Bank’s goals of tripling its climate financing efforts and fostering its drive for a climate-resilient Africa.
# And finally: The Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town will embark on a Trash Bash campaign at Hout Bay Beach tomorrow. This initiative is aimed at reducing ocean pollution by cleaning up plastic and debris. Trash Bash uses the Dirty Dozen methodology, which focuses on the 12 items often found littering the city’s beaches. These collected items, such as plastic bags, bottles, straws and sweet wrappers, are recorded to provide data to citizen science projects on the sources and impacts of plastics in the ocean.
