# The Electoral Commission is urging the Constitutional Court to urgently decide on the eligibility of MK party leader Jacob Zuma to serve in Parliament, citing the imminent elections. The IEC warns of a potential disputed election outcome if Zuma stands despite disqualification, which could undermine the constitutional order. The IEC’s legal counsel, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, argues the Electoral Court erred in admitting Zuma’s candidacy as the IEC is obligated to determine candidates’ eligibility for the National Assembly:
# Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has called for more action to prevent teenage suicide. Speaking to learners at the Eqinisweni Secondary School, the minister expressed her condolences following the deaths of four learners through suicide. Motshekga urged learners to speak up about challenges and avoid extreme measures like suicide, emphasising resilience. She says psycho-social issues including depression, peer pressure, and substance abuse should be addressed.
# The City of Cape Town is calling on the Department of Home Affairs to urgently provide clarity on the status quo of the long-awaited remote work visa. According to the city’s research, working tourists spend up to 50-thousand-rand during their time in Cape Town. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says the visa should have long ago been implemented:
# Cricket: Hilton Moreeng has left his position as head coach of the Proteas after more than a decade. He took over in 2013 and led the team to the final of the World Cup in South Africa last year, as well as two one-day World Cup semifinals and two T20 World Cup semifinals. Moreeng says it has been an honour to lead such a talented group of athletes. His assistant, Dillon du Preez, will take over temporarily until a new fulltime coach is announced.

Gold sells at two-thousand-367-dollars-96-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-1-cent a barrel.
# And finally: A study by Statistics South Africa has highlighted how income inequality in South Africa is driven by factors including age, race, gender, and education. The analysis, based on data from the Quarterly Labour Force Survey, reveals stark contrasts in earnings across demographics. Older white men with tertiary qualifications, particularly in Gauteng, tend to earn the highest incomes. Young black women with lower education levels, notably in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape, face the greatest financial challenges, ranking among the poorest groups in the country.
