# Airports Company South Africa has declared the incident site of the George building collapse a no-fly zone. This follows reports of a private drone flying over the rescue zone this morning. The George Municipality says the no-fly zone restriction will be strictly enforced, and any people found violating it will be subject to criminal prosecution. Nine construction workers have died following Monday’s collapse, with 44 still unaccounted for.
# Rise Mzansi has called for increased oversight by the Electoral Commission following reports of the ANC’s engagement with Zimbabwe’s Zanu-PF for election assistance. It criticises the ANC’s move, likening it to the DA’s request for United States election observers. Amidst concerns about election integrity, Rise Mzansi spokesperson Gugu Ndima reaffirms confidence in the IEC’s ability to ensure free and fair elections on the 29th:
# The ACDP says the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill is a flawed piece of legislation that threatens to destroy the country’s education system. The National Council of Provinces was unable to vote on the bill yesterday, due to a technicality. The bill amends sections of the South African Schools Act of 1996 to respond to school administrative and governance problems. The ACDP says throughout the process of this bill, several errors have been made in procedure, yet the ANC has chosen to ignore the many concerns.
# Union federation Saftu has accused Israel of engaging in the genocidal ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. Last month, nearly 400 bodies were discovered in mass graves near the Al Shifa and Nasser hospitals in Gaza. Saftu’s Mogoshadi Maserumule says the US must also be condemned for providing weapons to Israel, with president Joe Biden acknowledging that American bombs have been used to kill Palestinian civilians:
# Soccer: South Africa dominated the inaugural COSAFA awards held in Johannesburg. Men’s Coach of the Year went to Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena, while Banyana Banyana’s Desiree Ellis won the Women’s Coach of the Year. Sundowns’ players Ronwen Williams, Thapelo Maseko, and Andile Dlamini, won Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, Men’s Most Promising Player, and Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively. Al Ahly star Percy Tau won Men’s Player of the Year. Mokwena says this award is special:
