# Agang-South Africa has officially backed the GOOD Party for the elections. Addressing nearly a thousand party members and supporters in Hammanskraal in Tshwane, party president Andries Tlouamma urged them to vote for GOOD on all levels. Tlouamma emphasised GOOD’s alignment with their values and focus on addressing South Africa’s ongoing challenges. GOOD secretary-general Brett Herron echoed this commitment, urging voters to hold elected officials accountable.
# Education activist Hendrick Makaneta urges government to address rising violence in schools. He emphasises expanding mental health support for teachers and learners, highlighting the need for counselling services. Makaneta cites recent incidents like the violence at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg, underscoring deep-seated mental health challenges. He calls for societal support and government action to tackle systemic issues like poverty and unemployment contributing to school violence:
# AfriForum’s Security Study Trust says drone training not only offers an exciting new direction for students but also a critical skill that will become increasingly important in future. Last week, it launched the first Skerpskut shooting event outside Pretoria. The event gives about a dozen students access to the fast-growing world of drone technology and numerous career opportunities every year. AfriForum’s Jacques Broodryk says drone training is a new direction for the trust:
# Athletics: South Africa’s four by 400 meters relay team qualified for the Olympic Games during the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas that were dominated by America. The United States won four out of the five gold medals on offer. Wayde van Niekerk helped South Africa to win silver in their item, aided by Gardeo Isaacs, Zakithi Nene and Lythe Pillay. Botswana clinched gold after the Americans were disqualified, and Belgium finished third. Van Niekerk says he’s happy to contribute:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-47-cents and the euro at 19-rand-89-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-23-cents and Bitcoin trades at 65-thousand-271-dollars-89-cents. # And finally: A free Madonna concert on Brazil’s famous Copacabana beach was attended by an estimated 1.6-million fans. The show was the final stop on the 65-year-old’s Celebration Tour, which saw her do 80 shows across Europe and North America. Madonna performed songs such as Like a Prayer, Vogue and Express Yourself for over two hours. Brazilian pop artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar, as well as younger musicians from samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, also participated in the show.
