# Former ANC president Thabo Mbeki has rallied his support behind the ANC’s decision to subject ex-president Jacob Zuma to a disciplinary hearing. The ANC delayed action after Zuma’s allegiance to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. Speaking on a campaign in Soshanguve, Pretoria, Mbeki stressed the importance of ANC adherence to its own rules. The upcoming hearing, set for Tuesday, could result in Zuma’s expulsion from the party:
# City Power has commenced preparations for repairs on the M1 bridge after a post-assessment by the Johannesburg Road Agency. Spokesperson Isaac Mangena has cautioned power restoration cannot proceed due to extensive infrastructure damage. Mangena says further assessments, including gas level inspections, are necessary. In addition, Johannesburg Emergency Services are clearing residual smoke and toxins, providing clean air ventilation for repair teams. He clarifies that the tasks involve rubble removal, oil spill cleanup, and water drainage:
# A Durban actor will remain behind bars until his next appearance in the local Magistrates Court where he faces charges in connection with an international child pornography ring. The 58-year-old man was denied bail after he was arrested in his flat in Glenwood earlier. Police seized images and chats about boys available for sexual favours. A total of 13 people were apprehended as part of the joint operation between police and the US Homeland Department. The case against the man was postponed to 13 June.
# RISE Mzansi has expressed solidarity with Palestinians during the global “Week for Palestine”. The party says it denounces atrocities in Gaza, endorses international human rights law, and calls for an impartial investigation into violations. RISE Mzansi demands a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unfettered aid access. In a statement, it condemns incendiary rhetoric fuelling hate crimes and stresses the need for accountability and justice globally, echoing its commitment to human rights and justice.
# And, cricket: Debutant opening batsman Tanzid Hasan hit an unbeaten 67 and guided Bangladesh to an eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first T20 international in Chittagong. The hosts raced to 126 for two in under 16 overs after bowling out Zimbabwe for 124. Tanzid smashed eight fours and two sixes in his 47-ball maiden T20.
