# Rand Refinery has contributed two-million-rand to seven primary and secondary schools in Gauteng. The donation will fund refurbishments and modern educational tools, aiming to enhance school infrastructure, and provide essential resources for learners. Initiatives include sports change room refurbishments, technology-equipped classrooms, and dignity packs for learners. The company emphasises equitable learning conditions and holistic educational experiences.
# South African award-winning actress, Thuso Mbedu, and comedian, actor, and filmmaker, Kagiso Lediga, have been cast in Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King. This is a prequel to the 2019 remake of The Lion King. South African legend, John Kani, returns as Rafiki. Beyoncé is reprising the role of Queen Nala, while her daughter Blue Ivy voices Kiara, the daughter of King Simba. The new film, which will premiere in theatres on the 20th of December, will explore Mufasa’s origin story and his childhood with his brother Scar.
# The Arts and Culture Trust has launched the Tlholo Comic Strip Series, offering valuable insights and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs in the arts and culture sector. The series, which is available in all eleven languages, follows the journey of Pule, an aspiring entrepreneur navigating the challenges of starting a business in the arts and culture sector. Arts and Culture Trust CEO, Jessica Denyschen, says they aim to foster a more inclusive and supportive arts community for artists and arts entrepreneurs.
# The Journey to Jazz Festival, a showcase event of the Prince Albert Community Trust, begins tomorrow until Sunday in the Western Cape. Against the backdrop of the Swartberg Mountains, the festival promises a celebration of music, masterclasses, and community engagement. This year’s lineup includes South Africa’s Afrika Mkhize Quartet, USA/Italy’s Giovanni Guidi Trio and Adam Zanolini’s Heliacal Rising of Sothis from America. The trust says it hopes to showcase the history and beauty of the Prince Albert desert.
# And finally: A family in America has been reunited with their pet cat after she was accidentally mailed to California with a package return. Galeana disappeared from her home in Utah earlier this month – prompting widespread searches for the beloved missing moggie. She was rescued by an Amazon worker nearly a week after jumping into one of the family’s packages undetected. Her owners then flew more than one-thousand-600-kilometres to retrieve their pet. Galeana was in good health despite having had no food or water for days.
