# First up we have Rugby: Glasgow Warriors are the new leaders on the United Rugby Championship log, having jumped above Leinster at the top of the table. Leinster are now just one point ahead of reigning champions Munster, who made it back-to-back bonus point wins in South Africa by despatching the Lions. The Bulls lead the South African teams on the log in fourth place, the Stormers are fifth, the Lions eleventh, and the Sharks in 13th place among the 16 teams.
# Cricket: The Lions recorded an emphatic seven-wicket victory against the Dolphins to be crowned CSA T20 Challenge champions at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Jason Smith scored a half-century as the Dolphins were restricted to 165 for eight with Codi Yusuf and Bjorn Fortuin taking two wickets each. In reply, Reeza Hendricks scored an unbeaten 73 and Wiaan Mulder smashed an unbeaten 55 as they propelled the Lions to victory.
And in more Cricket news, Pakistan has appointed former South African batter Gary Kirsten as coach of the men’s One-Day International and T20 teams. The 56-year-old played 101 Tests and 185 ODIs for the Proteas between 1993 to 2004, before coaching India to win the ODI World Cup in 2011. He is currently coaching the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. Former Australia pace bowler Jason Gillespie has been appointed as the coach for Pakistan’s Test side. Kirsten’s first assignment is the T20 series against England next month.
# Golf: Belgium’s Manon De Roey won the South African Women’s Open by four shots at the Erinvale Country and Golf Estate, to claim her second Ladies European Tour title. The 32-year-old, went into the final round with a three-stroke lead, eventually signing off on 72 to win on 14 under par overall. England’s Gabriella Cowley finished second tied with New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori on ten-under-par. Nicole Garcia finished as the leading South African in fourth place on eight under par.
# And finally, Rugby: Former Scotland captain Stuart Hogg has revealed spending time at a rehabilitation centre helped him “reset” after being charged by police in connection with an incident in the Scottish Borders. Hogg, Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer, retired from playing in 2023 prior to the start of the Rugby World Cup, has announced a desire for a new career. Hogg won 100 caps for Scotland and went on three tours with the British and Irish Lions.
