# The South African Civil Aviation Authority says it is working to cushion the country’s aviation sector from adverse weather conditions resulting from climate change. One of the things it is looking at is the reduction of carbon emissions from jet fuels. During a two-day National Aviation Summit in Pretoria, the authority’s Themba Thabethe highlighted the importance of infrastructural changes to assist aircraft in adjusting to weather patterns:
# GreenCape’s Large-scale Renewable Energy Report forecasts that there will be about 32-gigawatts of installed renewables capacity in South Africa by 2030. It also estimates that six-gigawatts of solar photovoltaic and four-gigawatts of wind power could be added through private procurement alone by 2030. GreenCape says the emergence of the private market has been facilitated by market reforms allowing distributed projects of any size to proceed without a licence.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town is participating in this year’s City Nature Challenge and is encouraging residents to join in. The challenge is about taking pictures of as many different animal and plant species around the city. Cape Town boasts of being one of the most biodiverse cities in the world. Deputy mayor and mayoral committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews, says people will need to download the iNaturalist app and upload their pictures:
