Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The case against a senior MK party member is transferred to the Durban Regional Court
# The sole survivor of the Limpopo bus crash is discharged from hospital and airlifted to Botswana
# And cricket: The Champions League T20 may return after an absence of ten years
# The National Prosecuting Authority says the case against senior uMkhonto we Sizwe party member Visvin Reddy, charged with contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act, has been transferred to the Durban Regional Court. He threatened potential civil unrest if the party was not listed on the ballot paper for the May general election. NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says Reddy appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly inciting public violence:
# The sole survivor of the fatal Limpopo bus crash, eight-year-old Lorraine Atlang Siako, has been released from Mokopane Hospital and airlifted to Botswana. This follows last week’s crash as a bus carrying members of the Zion Christian Church to Moria for an Easter Pilgrimage crashed and caught fire near Mmamatlakala. Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba commended the Botswana high commission for their prompt assistance in ensuring Lorraine’s safe return:
# Load-shedding will remain suspended until further notice, following no power cuts for over a week. Eskom says this is a result of sustained available generation capacity, adequate emergency reserves, and anticipated moderate demand for the week ahead. Eskom will provide a system update on Friday or communicate any significant changes should they occur. A total of two-thousand-365 megawatts is planned to be returned to service by Friday evening.
# Cricket: There’s a good chance of the revival of the Champions League T20 after an absence of ten years. This follows active conversations between the governing bodies of Australia, England and India. The CEO of Australia’s Cricket Victoria, Nick Cummins, says the competition was ahead of its time, but is now mature enough to return. They are just trying to find a window in the very busy international schedule. The league was played annually from 2009 to 2014, with ten franchise teams from various countries taking part.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-79-cents and the euro at 20-rand-26-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-65-cents and Bitcoin trades at 65-thousand-908-dollars-18-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-270-dollars-14-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 89-dollars-66-cents a barrel.
# And finally: American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift became the first artist to achieve dollar billionaire status solely based on music. Respected US business magazine Forbes estimates her fortune at a staggering 1.1-billion-dollar, or 20.8-billion-rand. Other artists, such as Rihanna and Jay-Z, made their fortunes in part via entertainment holdings and fashion brands. Thirty-four-year-old Swift staged the first billion-dollar tour, her ongoing Eras Tour, and she also owns a huge real estate portfolio. Her next album, The Tortured Poets Department, is set to be released later this month.
