# Parliament has appointed deputy speaker Lechesa Tsenoli to serve as acting speaker during Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s absence. Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says Tsenoli will maintain all speaker responsibilities following Mapisa-Nqakula’s decision to take leave amidst a corruption investigation. Meanwhile, Mothapo confirmed Parliament’s participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, which will be led by deputy chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Sylvia Lucas:
# ActionSA has declared that a coalition government is the future of South Africa, emphasising its commitment to a new government vision for a just, inclusive, and prosperous country. They aim to promote effective communication and diversity education to build a unified society, with a focus on engaging youth and providing training for community leaders in non-violent dispute resolution. In his manifesto address, party leader Herman Mashaba shares his intention to lead negotiations after the upcoming elections, prioritising shared visions without compromising values:
# Civil society organisation, Accountability Now, affirms the Financial Sector Conduct Authority has the ability to pursue claims against the estate of deceased former Steinhoff CEO, Markus Jooste. This follows the authority’s stance that the ongoing investigation into Steinhoff remains unaffected by his death. Jooste, who fatally shot himself after being fined 475-million-rand, leaves behind an estate subject to potential recovery efforts. Director Paul Hoffman emphasises that justice persists post death, with efforts underway to settle Jooste’s affairs and recovering the imposed fine.
# Roadrunning: The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department has cautioned commuters about street closures and traffic disruptions due to the Johannesburg City Marathon today. Races, including 42-, 21-, and 10-kilometre events, are being held at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Kibler Park. JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says several roads including Vereeniging Road R82, Peggy Vera Road, and the M1-South Booysens On Ramp are closed. He says JMPD officers have been deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow during the event.
# And finally: The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has warned of level 5 disruptive rains in the province’s northern parts today. Spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi notes over 70-millimeters of rain within 24 hours, posing a high risk of flooding. Areas that are likely to be affected include Big Five Hlabisa, Mtubatuba, Nongoma, Jozini, uPhongolo and Umhlabuyalingana local municipalities.. Disaster teams are on standby, and communities are urged to seek shelter in safe locations.
