# The ANC top brass is meeting to finalise its election lists
# Today is the last day for objections to the provisional voters’ roll

# The ANC top brass is set to meet at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg today to finalise the party’s election lists. The ruling party’s Integrity Commission has reportedly recommended that members named in the State Capture Commission report be excluded from election lists. Among the members named as having a case to answer for abuse of power, abrogation of duty, and alleged corruption include ministers Gwede Mantashe, Zizi Kodwa, and Khumbudzo Ntshavheni. Parties and independent candidates have until Friday to hand over their election lists.
Meanwhile today is the last day for objections to the provisional voters’ roll as the Independent Electoral Commission gears up for the 29th of May general elections. Objections received by the commission on or before today will be considered, investigated and the outcome determined by next week Monday. The IEC says procedural requirements of Section 15 of the Electoral Act must be satisfied when objecting. All independent candidates and political parties who intend to contest the election must submit nomination requirements by five pm on Friday.
# The African Transformation Movement is calling on the Eastern Cape Department of Education to account for the negligent and inhumane behavior of the principal and teachers of Emdeni Junior Secondary School in Ludeke in Bizana, which led to the rape of a four-year-old learner. The little girl was stripped naked and sent home from school, walking by herself, after she messed herself. ATM spokesperson Zama Ntshona says she was then raped by unidentified perpetrators:
# Soccer: Manchester City came from behind to beat Manchester United three-one in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium. Marcus Rashford gave the visitors the lead with a wonder of a strike in the eighth minute. In the second half, City dominated and Phil Foden equalised in the 56th minute. He scored again to put the reigning champions ahead and Erling Haaland scored the third to secure victory, moving them one point behind leaders Liverpool. City manager, Pep Guardiola, gave praise to Foden:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-10-cents and the euro at 20-rand-72-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-20-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-622-dollars-46-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-80-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-65-cents a barrel.
# And finally, the Department of Health says obesity has become one of the biggest health crises faced by people around the world. Today is World Obesity Day. This is a day aimed at raising awareness and improving the understanding of the root causes of obesity, and actions needed to address them and tackle associated stigma. The department’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale, says South Africa is amongst the countries with the highest overweight and obesity rates:
