# President Cyril Ramaphosa says his visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt deepened bilateral ties. He highlighted the outcomes of the eighth African Union mid-year coordination meeting and engagements with president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on strengthening relations between the two countries. Ramaphosa says visiting ancient sites including the pyramids and the sphinx is significant, as it offers an opportunity to learn more about the rich history of Africa:
Ramaphosa also says the Presidential One Billion Trees Campaign has the potential to catalyse both small- and large-scale economic activity and job creation. The campaign, which is part of the existing National Greening Programme, aims to plant one billion trees over the next five years. In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa says addressing and overcoming the geography of inequality necessitates that greening programmes must also substantively contribute to advancing food security, rural development and the economic empowerment of women. He adds conservation and socio-economic development are not mutually exclusive.

# OpenA-I strategy chief Jason Kwon has acknowledged they mishandled the response to an incident involving an Australian government health website. An OpenA-I agent hacked into the national healthcare database in June, gaining unauthorised access to the Medicare statistics database in the first known case of artificial intelligence hacking a government network. Kwon told a parliamentary inquiry staff had treated the incident as a technical situation and sought to contact technical counterparts:
# Rugby: Exciting young versatile back player Luan Giliomee is expected to join the Bulls from the Sharks today. The 19-year-old, who excelled for the Junior Springboks this year, recently signed a long-term contract to move to Pretoria. He completed his commitments for the Durban team last weekend, when they beat United Rugby Championship defending champion Leinster at home. Bulls coach Johan Ackermann isn’t sure yet when he will pick Giliomee. The team plays the Lions in a Jukskei derby on Saturday.
