# The Congress of South African Trade Unions is holding its 15th National Congress in Midrand, Gauteng, with delegates discussing workers’ gains and ongoing economic challenges. Spokesperson Zanele Sabela says the four-day gathering will address unemployment, retrenchments, struggling municipalities, the national minimum wage and the two-pot retirement system. Delegates will also debate on rebuilding the tripartite alliance and electing new COSATU leadership:

# President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit to investigate allegations of corruption, maladministration and irregular expenditure at North West Transport Investments. It will cover its subsidiaries, North West Star and Atteridgeville Bus Service. Investigators will scrutinise procurement, contracts and payments involving fuel supplies, vehicle rentals and commuter bus services. The SIU will also examine claims submitted by Tansanat Coachlines Limited, Ziggy Investments owned and directed by businessman Suliman Carrim, and their joint venture. The probe will establish whether officials received undue benefits.

# Rise Mzansi has called on the police to urgently and transparently investigate the deaths of five women in Kempton Park, Gauteng, over the past two months. The party has expressed condolences to the families, urging police and other authorities to keep the public informed about the investigation. Rise Mzansi’s Makashule Gana encourages the public to come forward with any information that could assist police:

# The Kremlin says Russia is not deliberately targeting European diplomats after a train carrying Boris Johnson and other officials passed through an area struck by a Russian drone. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia’s forces target what Moscow considers military infrastructure in Ukraine, and denied that the attack was aimed at the diplomats. Ukrainian officials have suggested the train carrying the European delegation may have been targeted. The incident has raised concern because the strike happened close to Ukraine’s border with Poland, a NATO member.

# Soccer: Newly re-elected South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan says they support FIFA president Gianni Infantino ahead of the elections in March next year. Infantino has faced backlash over his now-scrapped plan to sell off stakes in the World Cup to private investors. European body UEFA is pursuing criminal proceedings against Infantino, accusing him of criminal mismanagement. Jordaan argues there is private investment or private equity in any soccer structure:

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-32-cents against the rand and the euro at 18-rand-82-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-98-cents and Bitcoin trades at 77-thousand-660-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-271-dollars-77-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 110-dollars-44-cents a barrel.
