# The Electoral Commission says political parties declared 117-million rand in donations between April and June. The DA received the largest share, declaring 104-million-rand, followed by ActionSA with six-million-rand, the Labour Party of South Africa with five-million-rand, and Rise Mzansi with two-million-rand. The IEC has also flagged compliance issues involving 15-million-rand in ANC donations. The commission expects political fundraising to increase ahead of the 4 November local government elections.

# Former Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya says he sent a team to verify an operation at the home of businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe in Sandton. Lebeya told the Madlanga Commission that he does not know Molefe and that he received a call from Malcolm X, alleging that people claiming to be Hawks were conducting a raid. Lebeya said he sent senior police officials to verify the information received on the operation:

# Soil of Africa Civic Movement is calling for stronger national financial literacy and consumer protection programmes, especially in townships and rural communities. Money Smart Week South Africa’s theme is “Money Smart: The Power of Possible”. The movement’s Luzuko Sofute says government must take financial education to communities using language they understand. He says financial literacy can help individuals and households unlock opportunities, improve financial wellbeing and build greater financial resilience:

# The death toll in Nepal’s flood disaster has risen to at least 356 people, with hundreds still missing after a glacial collapse triggered devastating flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border. Six South Africans are currently reported as missing, but local and international disaster authorities have not confirmed them among the dead. They are among more than 500 foreign nationals stranded or untraceable. The South African humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers has search-and-rescue teams on standby, but says access remains extremely dangerous, while the US Geological Survey has warned of another possible flood.

# Cricket: South Africa faces hosts Namibia in tomorrow’s opener of the T20 tri-series in the capital of Windhoek. The tournament also features the other co-host of next year’s one-day World Cup, Zimbabwe. Each team play the other two twice, and the top-two teams will reach next Sunday’s final. Björn Fortuin will captain the young Proteas side in the absence of several more experienced players, with exciting players such as Dewald Brevis, Jordan and Rubin Hermann, Duan Jansen, Kwena Maphaka and Lutho Sipamla in the squad.

# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 15-rand-98-cents against the rand and the euro at 18-rand-61-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-72-cents and Bitcoin trades at 79-thousand-831-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-581-dollars-89-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 90-dollars-52-cents a barrel.
