# We kick off with rugby: Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has recovered from a hamstring injury and will start against the All Blacks in Cape Town on Saturday. # Cricket: Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes really harsh punishment is needed to ensure all the country’s players realise there will be consequences for unruly behaviour. Pace bowler Brydon Carse became the third national player involved in a drinking controversy in the past year when he was handcuffed by police outside a Derby nightclub last weekend. He was then dropped from the team for the second Test against Pakistan. Vaughan says someone needs to get a punishment that sends a shiver down the whole team.

# Soccer: Tottenham Hotspur paid an initial fee of 1.6-billion-rand to obtain the services of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City. The 22-year-old didn’t establish himself as a regular at City, but Spurs believe he could add pace and creativity to its attack. Savinho is excited to work under head coach Roberto de Zerbi, who rescued Spurs from relegation from the English Premier League for the first time in 49 years at the end of last season. De Zerbi says Savinho brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions.

# And tennis: Italy’s world number six Flavio Cobolli and Swiss teammate Belinda Bencic defeated American Serena Williams and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a high-quality showdown to reach the semifinals of the US Open mixed doubles championship. The top seeds, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, suffered defeat to Britain’s Henry Patten and Czech Katerina Siniakova. The married couple, Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina and Frenchman Gael Monfils, the Russian pairing of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev and Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik also advanced to the semifinals.
