# We start off with soccer: European champion Spain is into the World Cup final after beating France 2-0 in Dallas. Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty and a goal from Pedro Porro secured the victory for Spain, who had equalled Italy’s record for the longest unbeaten run in international soccer with 37 matches. Spain will face either an England side they beat in the Euro 2024 final or world champions Argentina in Sunday’s final. Meanwhile, a third-place play-off awaits France on Saturday, to bring an end to manager Didier Deschamps’ 14-year tenure.

# Rugby: Springbok assistant coach Deon Davids has warned about the threat Wales could pose on Saturday with their backs against the wall in the Nations Championship. South Africa beat England and Scotland, while Wales began their campaign with a victory over Fiji, but lost to Argentina. When the two sides met in November, Wales suffered their heaviest-ever home defeat in a 73-0 humiliation. Davids says Wales is a very competitive team:

Meanwhile, former Welsh flyhalf Dan Biggar doesn’t back his countrymen when they face South Africa this weekend. The Springboks are top of the world rankings and Wales the lowest-placed in the competition at twelfth. Biggar says the Red Dragons need some work in certain departments, especially in defense after losing to Argentina last weekend. He says the world champions will definitely test Wales defensively after scoring 13 tries in the competition so far.

# Athletics: South Africa’s Zakithi Nene finished third in the men’s 400-metres at the last World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting of this year in Budapest. He crossed the line in 44.57-seconds, behind Zambia’s Commonwealth Games champion, Muzala Samukonga, and Hungarian Attila Molnár. Cameroonian Emmanuel Eseme was victorious in the men’s 100-meters, while South Africa’s Akani Simbine finished tied for fourth with Jamaican Nishion Ebanks, both men going 10.05-seconds. Julien Alfred won the women’s 100-metres finishing ahead of Jamaican duo Tina Clayton and Brianna Lyston.

# And cricket: India has taken a 1-0 lead in their three-match one-day series against England with a six-wicket victory at Edgbaston. Axar Patel took four wickets as England was bowled out for 258, despite Joe Root scoring an unbeaten 76. Captain Shubman Gill’s 80 off 75 balls and a 102-run partnership between Patel and Washington Sundar propelled India to victory with 4.4 overs to spare. This is England’s seventh loss in the last ten ODIs. The second ODI will be played in Cardiff tomorrow.
