# United Kingdom senior detective Lee Martins has praised South African authorities following the arrest of murder suspect Mark Tshuma in Johannesburg. Tshuma is wanted in the UK for the murders of his wife, Ntobeko Zandile Tshuma, and their two daughters. Martins says Tshuma fled the UK through Dubai before travelling between South Africa and Zimbabwe. He says they are now pursuing his extradition to the United Kingdom:

# The Electoral Commission of South Africa is facing criticism after warning political parties about the use of artificial intelligence in election content, while later posting an AI-altered image of its own. The IEC has urged stakeholders to ensure responsible use of AI and prevent misleading information ahead of the local government elections. The commission says generative AI poses a growing risk through deepfakes and targeted disinformation. The IEC has invited South Africans, including political parties, to submit written comments on its draft digital campaign rules. The deadline is 22nd July.

# An investigative documentary released by News24 titled Anele Tembe: Final Moments is set to be released today, retracing the final hours of the late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes’ fiancée in Cape Town. Tembe died after falling from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in 2021. Her death was ruled a suicide, a finding disputed by her family. The documentary includes CCTV footage, incident reports, and other material from that morning. Its release comes ahead of Tembe’s inquest at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

# Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Tourism chairperson Ronalda Nalumango has urged the government to ensure township and village tourism entrepreneurs are not excluded from the sector’s growth. Nalumango says tourism should be measured by the jobs, businesses, and opportunities it creates in underserved communities, not only by visitor numbers to major cities. While welcoming the sector’s strong recovery, she emphasised that more funding should support local infrastructure, enterprise development, and market access to ensure tourism delivers inclusive economic growth across South Africa.

# Tennis: Linda Nosková captured her maiden Grand Slam title with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over fellow Czech Karolína Muchová in the 2026 Wimbledon final yesterday. The 21-year-old ninth seed dominated early but crumbled when serving for the match at 5-2 in the second set, squandering five championship points. Muchová fought back valiantly to force a decider. However, Nosková recovered her poise in the third set to secure the trophy on her sixth match point:

# And soccer: Sport, Arts and Culture minister Gayton McKenzie has described Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams as a bright talent. The 25-year-old’s body was found at a premises in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, yesterday morning. The midfielder recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping the team reach the knockout stages. He stated to Newzroom Afrika that his death is a huge loss to the country:
