# Former South African Air Force Brigadier General, Portia Anyamba, has been sentenced to six months in a US federal prison. This is after she pleaded guilty to acting as an undeclared agent of South Africa while working at the highly sensitive Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. As part of a plea agreement, she also pleaded guilty to making false statements in her US security clearance application. In addition to her prison sentence, Anyamba has been ordered to serve two years of supervised release and pay a fine of 155-thousand-rand.

# Rise Mzansi has called for urgent action to speed up the re-vetting and lifestyle audits of senior South African Police Service officials. According to the party, the process has been too slow despite evidence before the Madlanga commission showing criminal networks have infiltrated the police. Rise Mzansi’s Makashule Gana has welcomed the extension of the commission’s deadline but warned that it must not delay efforts to restore public trust in policing:

# The National Consumer Commission has announced a safety recall affecting 10-thousand-961 BMW 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, X3 and X4 vehicles sold in South Africa since 2016. The recall follows a possible fault in the starter system that could prevent the engine from starting or, in rare cases, cause overheating and smoke. The commission’s Phetho Ntaba urged owners to avoid using the remote engine start function until the repair is completed:

# Suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and suspended head of legal services Kemi Behari have each been granted 50-thousand-rand bail, in an alleged corruption case. Former Ekurhuleni city manager Imogen Mashazi and suspended head of human resources Linda Gxasheka also appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court. The charges relate to the blue lights scandal involving Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala. Mkhwanazi’s lawyer, Tian Peters, called for his client’s bail application to be finalised without further delays.

# Iranian Foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has warned against any further US military “adventurism”. This follows a second day of attacks, which have claimed the lives of 14 people in Tehran. The US military struck 170 targets in Iran in the last two days, including more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran launched retaliatory strikes on American bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan. Araghchi has warned that Iran is ready to defend itself in the case of further US attacks.

# Rugby: Trade union Solidarity has criticised a proposal by Trade, Industry and Competition minister Parks Tau to declare the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry 2026 Tour a protected event. The union claims the move could increase government control over private sporting events by imposing procurement requirements and adding costs for organisers. Solidarity’s Theuns du Buisson says they will oppose the regulations through legal channels:
