# Deputy president Paul Mashatile has called for a stronger partnership between the government and traditional leaders to address challenges facing rural communities and strengthen development efforts. He said collaboration between government and traditional leaders is essential to improving service delivery and building resilient communities:
# Tshwane District Police Commissioner, Samuel Thine, says sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community structures remains essential in the ongoing fight against crime and in ensuring safer communities. A multi-disciplinary crime prevention operation conducted in Ga-Rankuwa and Mabopane led to the arrest of 345 suspects for various criminal offences, including murder and armed robbery. Police spokesperson, Johan van Dyk, says compliance inspections also focused on immigration and business-related matters, which resulted in the detention of 53 illegal immigrants:
# The family of a 21-year-old, Zenande Chiloane, who went missing in the Crocodile River say they have not lost hope as the search enters its sixth day. Rescue teams are expected to deploy a helicopter to assist with ongoing recovery efforts. A vehicle carrying three people failed to stop at an intersection in the KaMagugu/University of Mpumalanga area. Two victims have since been recovered. It is alleged the vehicle was travelling at high speed before the incident occurred. Authorities have not yet released further details surrounding the incident.
# Rugby: Bulls flyhalf Handré Pollard says the team’s character and resilience will be their greatest asset as they chase a first United Rugby Championship title against Leinster in Dublin next Friday. The Bulls will contest a fourth final in five seasons of the competition, while Leinster are chasing back-to-back URC titles. Pollard believes this final will be decided by whichever side handles its emotions best. He adds that the team has worked hard to get to the final, and he hopes they won’t let the occasion get to them.

# And finally: Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha, ( pronounced Bash-rakiti-jabba) who had been in a coma for more than three years, has died at 47. She collapsed in December 2022 while exercising her dogs. Her doctors attributed it to a severely irregular heartbeat, caused by an infection in her heart. The princess trained as a lawyer, getting two postgraduate degrees from Cornell University in the US. Her abilities and the trust her father appeared to have in her, gave rise to speculation about the royal succession. King Vajiralongkorn, who is 73 years old, has not yet named an heir.
