Wits University’s Hardship Fund to assist financially excluded students

# The University of the Witwatersrand has allocated approximately 30-million-rand to aid financially needy students in registering for this year’s academic year. The Wits Hardship Fund aims to assist eligible students owing the institution over ten-thousand-rand to secure their spot. This initiative comes as thousands of undergraduate students face enrolment challenges due to outstanding fees. Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel says of the one-thousand-and-37 applications received, around 700 have been approved. The university has also initiated a discretionary fund to match donors with students in need of funding.
