# The Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works, Daylin Mitchell says the department is concerned with the recent rise in arrests for one week on the province’s roads. Mitchell says the Western Cape Traffic Services recorded 17 drunk-driving arrests in the week of January 10 to 16. According to the MEC 23 road accidents have been recorded with 24 road fatalities. Other arrests include 325 speeding offences, 8-thousand-688 fines issued for various traffic violations, 15 arrests for reckless and negligent driving, and 16 for the possession of fraudulent documents. 19 vehicles were impounded and 104 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.
