Western Cape premier chairs meeting on energy resilience amid climate challenges

# Western Cape premier Alan Winde led a session of his government’s Energy Council, focused on bolstering the province’s energy resilience in the face of climate-related challenges. The council oversees the Energy Resilience Programme, aiming to add five-thousand-700-megawatts to the grid by 2035 through private sector investments. Winde emphasised the need for Eskom to prioritise climate change mitigation to safeguard residents from prolonged power disruptions. Discussions also covered the refurbishment progress of the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant to extend its lifespan.
