# The dangers posed by tropical cyclone Batsirai has abated for South Africa, but the South African Weather Service still warns of heavy rains along the East Coast and adjacent interior. The storm is forecast to continue in a south-westerly direction and make landfall at the central part of Madagascar today. Residents of the Indian Ocean island have been warned to be prepared for strong winds, torrential rain and waves reaching heights of between eight and 15 metres, but the cyclone is expected to decrease in intensity soon.
