# Interpol recently released its African Cyberthreat Assessment Report for 2021 which breaks down the most prevalent threats on the continent. According to the Interpol report, the top five threats in Africa are online scams, digital extortion, business email compromise, ransomware, and botnets. The report says many online scams tend to target older generations who are less digitally savvy while digital extortion tends to target schoolgoers or those in their early twenties as they are more likely to partake in dangerous activities such as sending compromising pictures.
