# Eskom has confirmed that a transformer trip at the Midas substation has disrupted electricity for mines and residents in Carletonville and Fochville in Gauteng, and Potchefstroom in North West, affecting approximately 15 mines. Eskom’s Gauteng spokesperson, Amanda Qithi, confirms partial restoration for mines, though full repairs are ongoing. She says delays stem from safety threats posed by illegal miners, but Eskom will prioritise employee safety:
