Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start off with Cricket: England’s captain, Ben Stokes, says they have no regrets about their approach despite slumping to a 434-run defeat by India in the third Test in Rajkot. The visitors were bowled out for just 122 late on day four, having been set 557 for victory. Ravindra Jadeja was named player of the match for his seven wickets in the Test and 112 with the bat in the first innings. India leads the five-match series two-one. Stokes says they won’t change their method despite criticism:
# Rugby: England scrum-half, Alex Mitchell, has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Scotland in the Six Nations due to a knee injury. The 26-year-old, who was originally an emergency Rugby World Cup call-up in August last year, following the long-term injury to Jack van Poortvliet, has started in eight of England’s last ten matches. Mitchell will likely be replaced by Danny Care or Ben Spencer. England is second in the Six Nations standings with eight points, behind defending champions Ireland.
# Tennis: Reigning Australian Open champion, Jannik Sinner, captured his second tour-level title of the season by winning the Rotterdam Open. The Italian defeated Australia’s Alex de Minaur, 7-5, 6-4, to win the title for the first time. The 22-year-old will rise to a career-high world number three in the ATP Rankings. Sinner says he is proud of the level that he played throughout the tournament:
# Soccer: Manchester United defeated Luton Town two-one to stay in contention for a top-four finish in the Premier League, which will mean they qualify for the Champions League next season. A brace from striker, Rasmus Hojlund, helped the Red Devils leave Kenilworth Road with all three points. With the win, United have narrowed the gap on fifth-placed Tottenham to three points and five behind Aston Villa in fourth. Manager, Erik ten Hag, says they could have controlled the game more:
# And finally: Motorsport: Formula One has urged Red Bull to resolve the investigation into team principal, Christian Horner, as soon as possible. Horner is being probed following an allegation of inappropriate behaviour being made against him by a colleague. The 50-year-old has strongly denied the allegations. F1 says it hopes the matter will be clarified at the earliest opportunity, after a fair and thorough process. Pre-season testing begins on Wednesday ahead of the opening race of the year in Bahrain on the second of next month.
