# The Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa has criticised the proposed amendments to the Second-Hand Goods Act. Seifsa president Elias Monage highlighted concerns over the amendments’ proportionality and potential unintended consequences. The amendments include an enhanced reporting system and a prohibition on cash transactions in scrap metal trading. He emphasised that these changes could harm the informal sector and legitimate participants while not effectively addressing illicit trade and infrastructure damage.
