# The South African Local Government Association has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s suspension of the new reticulation definition in the Electricity Regulation Act. The association raised concerns that the revised definition undermines local government’s constitutional authority over electricity distribution and retail. While supporting the ERA Bill’s structural reforms for Eskom’s unbundling, SALGA opposed the unnotified amendment, which contradicted another section of the constitution. This course of action reflects SALGA’s mandate to safeguard the executive authority of municipalities over their constitutional functions.
