# South Africa has witnessed a 15-percent decline in enrollment in early learning programmes post Covid-19. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund’s report on the state of children in the country, unveiled that the sector is deeply under-resourced and fails to provide support to many of the country’s most vulnerable children. In addition, parents’ unemployment, limited awareness of the impact of Early Childhood Development programmes and understaffing ratio of one teacher for every ten children underscores the challenges faced in this crucial stage of education.
