# The office of the Public Protector agrees the DNA backlog within the police’s National Forensic Science Laboratories should be investigated. This follows a complaint by the civil justice organisation Action Society. A spokesperson, Elanie van der Walt, says the investigation means the difference between life or death for survivors of violent crime in South Africa. She believes the proposed investigation will reaffirm the Presidency and the ministry of Police have blood on their hands:
