# Professor Dire Tladi has been elected as a judge in the International Court of Justice in The Hague for a nine-year term starting February. He is the first South African to serve as a judge on the court. Tladi is currently an international law expert at the University of Pretoria and holds the National Research Foundation South African Research Chairs Initiative in International Constitutional Law. He is also the Future Africa chairperson in Global Justice for Africa. Tladi was a member of the United Nation’s International Law Commission from 2012 until last year.
