# The South African Human Rights Commission has been informed there are only five-thousand public order police members countrywide out of the required 12-thousand. Testifying in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal into the July civil unrest in the province, national police commissioner Khehla Sitole said the police have no sufficient capacity and resources as the public order policing units had been cut since 1995. In addition, Sitole said the technological component through social media played a major role in the unrest.
