# The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s mayoral committee member for Public Health, Thsonono Buyeye, has called on residents to support efforts to divert waste away from landfill sites. This call was made following the success of a recycling pilot project where waste is separated at the source into groups that can be rerouted for recycling. These recyclable materials would be fetched weekly by the metro. The number of participants in the project has grown to 393. The municipality collects on average 330 bags of recyclable materials on a weekly basis.
