# The Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business says it will take businesses years to recover from the damage caused by the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal in July. CEO Melanie Veness revealed this at the South African Human Rights Commission’s hearings on the unrest. She is of the opinion the looting was orchestrated and police’s absence was part of it:
