# Parliament’s portfolio committee on Environment, Forestry and Fisheries is calling for the speedy clean-up of Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape. It is estimated that at least 80 litres of heavy fuel oil entered the seawater after a fuel tank on board the receiving vessel overflowed. Committee chairperson Faith Muthambi says the South African Maritime Safety Authority must ensure that the investigation into this incident is finalised without delay, and that action is taken to safeguard and protect all birds, marine life and the environment.
