# Minister of Police Bheki Cele says nine-thousand-556 people were raped in South Africa between July and September this year. This is an increase of 634 cases, or 7.1-percent compared to the previous reporting period. A sample that was taken of six-thousand-144 rape cases revealed that three-thousand-951 of these took place at the victim or rapist’s home. Cele says liquor and drugs played a major role in one-thousand-383 of the cases:
