# More than 50 people were killed in flash floods in the vicinity of Valencia in southeastern Spain, while dozens remain missing. This followed torrential rains and hailstorms that flooded roads and towns, sweeping vehicles away and damaging buildings. People were advised to stay at home and only travel in case of emergency. According to the Spanish Weather Service, a total of 491 millimetres of rain was recorded in the region within eight hours. This is the equivalent of a year’s worth of rain.
