# Communications and Digital Technologies Minster Solly Malatsi confirmed that the department has appointed BMIT Knowledge Group to develop a funding model for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. Malatsi says BMIT Knowledge Group is a long-standing South African ICT research and advisory firm with a proven track record of economic modelling, broadcasting market analysis and regulatory policy support:
# The National Department of Transport has gazetted the long awaited National Land Transport Amendment Act and the Amended Regulations, for implementation. The department’s spokesperson, Collen Msibi says the Act outlines a requirement for e-hailing public transport operators to have operating licences. He says app companies are required to register and comply with company laws in South Africa under the Trade, Industry and Competition Department and South African Revenue Services:
# A drunk driver was arrested on the N3 southbound in KwaZulu-Natal after he collided with three cars while trying to run away from a crime scene. The Department of Transport spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says a distressed female motorist alerted the Road Traffic Inspectorate about a drunk driver who had collided into her and fled the scene. He says when confronted, the drunk driver assaulted the officer and fled:
# Athletics: After breaking the African record in the first-round heats, the national mixed 4x400m relay team went on to finish sixth in the final on Day 1 of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday. In the opening round of the men’s 100-metre sprint, national champion Gift Leotlela and South African record holder Akani Simbine both won their heats. Leotlela clocked 9.87 seconds, setting a personal best, and Simbine stopped the clock in 10.02, with both athletes booking their places in the semifinals to be held this afternoon.
# Rugby: The Springbok Women’s performances at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup were not only an indication of things to come, but will also leave a legacy that will inspire the next generation to emulate them. # And finally, Coldplay celebrated the end of their record-breaking 10-show run at Wembley Stadium with a dazzling, multi-coloured night of musical magic and playing hits from every era of their 25-year career. The show closed the latest leg of their Music Of The Spheres Tour, which has circled the world four times since 2022. It is now the highest-attended tour in history, with more than 12-million tickets sold. Singer Chris Martin promised from the stage that the tour would resume “somewhere in southern Africa in about 18 months”.
