# The alleged killer of Johannesburg teacher Kirsten Kluyts has appeared briefly in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court. Twenty-one-year-old Varsity College student, Bafana Makhungela, will be back in court on 5 December. He allegedly raped and killed 34-year old Kluyts while she was taking part in an organised walk in George Lea Park in Sandton last month. She was a teacher at Delta Park School in Randburg.
# Minister of Mineral Resources Gwede Mantashe is engaging with the management of the Impala platinum mine in Rustenburg, North West, following an accident which caused the deaths of 11 people. According to mine spokesperson Johan Theron, 88 workers were on board an elevator when it plunged down a shaft, leaving 75 others seriously injured. The meeting aimed to have management provide an explanation to the minister regarding the incident and potential causes. All operations at the mine were suspended.
# Freedom Front Plus leader, Pieter Groenewald, has urged civil society organisations to join forces with the Multi Party Charter to salvage South Africa. Addressing various organisations in the third Multi Party Charter meeting in Boksburg, Groenewald encouraged these groups to vocalise their expectations from the charter. He emphasised the need for civil society to engage in voter registration awareness campaigns. Groenewald underscores the pivotal role of voters in determining the strength of a political party, influencing the implementation of political change:
# Water and Sanitation minister, Senzo Mchunu, has made assurances that the department, along with its entity in North West, Magalies Water, is working tirelessly to ensure the efficient rehabilitation of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The dam is affected by hyacinth and algae, and this negatively impacts on the water quality of the dam. Mchunu says Hartbeespoort Dam marked its 100 years of existence in September this year:
# Rugby: Five World Cup winners will compete for the honour of being named SA Rugby’s player of the year for 2023. They are Pieter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi, Frans Malherbe and Damian Willemse. The Springboks were nominated as team of the year, and head coach Jacques Nienaber as coach of the year. Bok back players Canan Moodie and Jaden Hendrikse will come up against Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Evan Roos, and Ruan Venter as young player of the year. The winners will be announced early next year.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-70-cents and the euro at 20-rand-49-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-61-cents and Bitcoin trades at 37-thousand-197-dollars-95-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-and-15-dollars-22-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-66-cents a barrel.
