# ActionSA condemns Gauteng Health Department for the reckless disposal of waste

# ActionSA in Gauteng has condemned the irresponsible dumping of health waste, allegedly by the provincial Department of Health, on open land opposite the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. ActionSA’s Emma More says the flagrant disregard for public health and environmental safety is unacceptable and requires immediate attention and accountability. More adds the party will ask the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, Johannesburg Metro Police and Pikitup to address the issue and if possible, issue fines for contravention of bylaws, Illegal dumping and air pollution:
# The City of Cape Town is pleased to announce that its most popular beaches display excellent water quality results ahead of the festive season. This is based on independent analysis of water samples taken over the past seven weeks, the latest being 15 November. Mayoral committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews, says Cape Town is anticipating one of the busiest tourist seasons in recent years, with visitors flocking to the pristine beaches to join locals in recreational activities:
# The National Council of Provinces chief whip, Seiso Mohai, has urged the Southern African Development Community’s Parliamentary Forum to champion the development of a model law on climate change to harmonise the region’s legislative response to the scourge. Mohai was speaking at the 54th SADC Plenary Assembly currently underway in Port Louis, Mauritius. He says South Africa supports the adoption of the report of the standing committee on Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources, which emphasises the importance of addressing the impending challenges brought about by climate change.
# Motorsport: Charles Leclerc topped the times for Ferrari ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris in a crash-hit second practice session for tomorrow’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. World champion Max Verstappen was unable to improve on third. The action was reduced severely by two red flag interruptions following crashes by Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg of Haas. Both drivers were unhurt. Valtteri Bottas was fourth for Alfa Romeo, ahead of Sergio Perez, in the second Red Bull, Mercedes’ George Russell and Zhou Guanyu in the second Alfa Romeo.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town has congratulated the Netball World Cup for winning the event of the year accolade at the Sport Industry Awards last night. The awards are considered the most prestigious honour in the business of sports events. The Netball World Cup, hosted in Cape Town in July and August, was up against numerous other nominees, including the Cape Town E-Prix, the ICC Women’s World Cup and the Run Your City Series. It was also nominated for sports organisation of the year and in the African excellence category.
