# The Mpumalanga police say they are making headway with combatting gender-based violence in Emalahleni by winning court cases against perpetrators. A police spokesperson says a 53-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Emalahleni Regional Court for raping a minor family member in 2017. The second case won was against Mandla McDonnell who attempted to rape a woman in Vosman in May 2020. Neighbours came to her rescue before he could rape her. He was convicted as well as sentenced to six years imprisonment on a charge of sexual assault.
