# Mpumalanga’s Lekwa Local Municipality has been taken over by another party for the first time since democracy. The Lekwa Community Forum has taken both the mayorship and speaker position while the chief whip position went to the Economic Freedom Fighters following the council’s inaugural meeting yesterday. The new mayor is the forum’s leader, Louis Thabethe, and the speaker is Oliver Phiri. The EFF’s Dumisani Msibi is the chief whip. Lekwa is one of the three hung municipalities in Mpumalanga.
