# The Limpopo Health Department has called upon residents to remain alert following a surge in new malaria cases, after 406 infections have been recorded in recent weeks and two people have died. The department says they will be sending 42 malaria fighting teams to hot spots, including the malaria-prone Vhembe and Mopani areas. Officials have raised concerns about a possible resurgence in new cases, especially as the rainy season approaches. The MEC for Health, Phophi Ramathuba, says the number of cases doubled from 206 to over 400 within two weeks.
