# The Kopanong local municipality in the Free State is expected to be placed under administration following financial difficulties. The municipality owes the municipal union Samwu 26-million-rand for pension fund contribution and is yet to pay its 450 workers in almost three months. The municipality’s accounts have also been frozen due to the non-payment of the pension fund contributions since 2012. The head of the department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mokete Duma, says the municipality, which oversees nine towns, is poor and does not have an economic base.
